Dr. Alexandria Coronado is joining forces with California State Assemblyman Matthew Harper to advocate on behalf of survivors of domestic violence
(Sacramento, CA) This morning, 65th Assembly Candidate Dr. Alexandria Coronado announced her support for Assemblyman Matthew Harper’s effort to protect survivors of domestic abuse. The bill, AB 2462, would require judges to take into consideration whether a victim was allegedly strangled or suffocated prior determining bail amounts.
“Domestic violence is one of the most serious issues facing women today. While some existing laws protect the right of survivors, there are dangerous loop holes in the system that must be addressed,” said Dr. Coronado. “Similar to other methods of analyzing the severity of dangerous crimes, like a gun in a robbery, judges need to take into consideration strangling or choking, in relation to domestic violence. Survivors of domestic violence are often too scared to defend themselves. Today, I’m standing up to support innocent women and children who are traumatized and victimized by these criminals, every day.”
The bill will be considered in a hearing at 9am on April 10th by the Assembly Public Safety Committee. Dr. Coronado will be attending the hearing to show her support.
